What Is Friends of Hospice?

Jefferson County hospice

Why Jefferson County Hospice?

In 1991, we became the first hospice support group in Jefferson County, founded by Jefferson County nurses and other volunteers to support the Jefferson County Hospice program.

We support the Hospice program financially by helping to cover expenses such as ongoing training for Hospice nurses and other staff members, supplies used by the nurses in caring for Hospice patients, some patient medications not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or personal insurance, and in many other ways.

Volunteer Involvement

Many Friends of Hospice board members and other volunteers are thoroughly trained to assist patients and families in a variety of ways to:

  • Provide companionship to patients
  • Assist the family by running errands
  • Relieve family members or other caregivers by spending meaningful time with their loved one, so that those caregivers can run errands or just have a little time to themselves.

We spread the word about the Hospice program by speaking to community groups, churches and other organizations, and by providing an information table at many community events.

Friends of Hospice of Jefferson County is a local 501 (c)(3) nonprofit community organization.
